13.07.08 Malmesbury 6 a side

Well done to everyone involved in the Malmesbury Tournament on Sunday. Both teams played well but were unfortunate not to qualify out of the group stages. But at least the Sun was out for the whole day.

We've really enjoyed this season’s six a sides. I know there was quite a bit of travelling involved but we took part in some good quality events where the standard of football was generally very high and I think the boys represented Shaw FC very well

 06.07.08 Grove 6 a side

Congratulations to everyone involved in the Grove Challengers 6 a side Tournament on Sunday, especially to the parents who gave up 8 hours of their weekend to support the boys the in wind and torrential rain!

Both teams performed well with Simons’ A team progressing through to the Quarter Finals of the Plate competition, only to be knocked out by Abingdon B, and Martin’s B team that went on to win the Plate competition by beating Appleton on penalties in the final.

The whole of the B team played very well, although we certainly took our time to get going! It was good to see Whitey back and able to play a part in every game, Matt Huggins surprised us all and scored to very important goals, Mick managed to hit double figures on the goal front (it would have been more but for some strange substitutions from the manager!) and Pete played out of his skin to both score and save the winning penalty.

14.06.08 Bournemouth Sports 6 a side

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Bournemouth Tournament. Although it was a smaller tournament than in previous years the standard of football was extreamly high.

The A team peformed very well but their only defeat still meant that they didn't get out of the group stages. The B team also failed to get out of the group stages.

However the upside of not getting through to the semi finals was that we could spend more time at the beach! Special mentions must go to all the boys that were brave enough to go into the sea, especially Matt & Pete who didn't seem to feel the cold

31.05.08 Testwood 6 a side

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Testwood 6 a side. The A team battled hard but were unable to escape the group stages with 2 wins and 3 defeats. The B team fared much better by coming 2nd in their group and only losing their quarter final by a “golden goal” in extra time, to allegedy the "best team in Portsmouth".

The general standard of football at the tournament was very high and we came across some very good teams from right across the South Coast and the Isle of Wight.

18.05.08 Abingdon 6 a side

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Abingdon Six a Side tournament. Both teams did really well and played some stunning football, to get to a final and a semi final in our first outing of the summer was very satisfying.

It was good to see Whitey and Matt Huggins turn out in team colours but special mentions must go to all of the Parents who gave up 7 hours of their Sunday to come and support the teams!

04.04.08 Home to Wroughton

Hard Luck to everyone involved in the 3-6 defeat by Wroughton. Once again the score line didn’t really reflect the match.

Everyone played really well and it was very encouraging not to see any heads drop when we went 1-0 down, in fact we saw the opposite with us going straight back at Wroughton and Al scoring his goal.

Special mentions must go to Michael for his two goals, making it 10 goals in 10 games. Also to Al for his well taken goal and Brad for battling well in midfield.

29.04.08 Away to Cricklade

Terrible weather, a funny little pitch and small goals, none of which boded well and so it proved.

Despite dominating the whole of the first half and most of the second Shaw went 1-0 down to a dubious free kick and Cricklade were celebrating.

Despite numerous formation changes and constant pressure we just couldn’t seem to get any luck in front of goal. Brad went close on more than one occasion, Michael hit the bar and numerous shots went wide or were saved by the keeper.

With time running out Cookie hit a spectacular cross field shot which looped over the Cricklade keeper to give the boys a late and more than welcome equaliser.

The only real bright spot was that the team hit the magical 30 points total asked for by Simon & Martin

27.04.08 Away to Stratton Juniors A. Lost 1-3

Hard luck to all the boys who featured in the 3-1 defeat to Stratton A on Sunday.

We started the game really well and our “revised” formation looked solid and strong. Tom’s first half goal was a cracker and to go into the break with a one nil lead was a great effort from everyone.

Stratton’s quick second half goal seemed to deflate the team and Alex’s injury and our forced change of formation meant we were always going to struggle in the later stages of the game..

However special mentions go to Tom for his 4th goal of the season and the whole team for their first half efforts. Its all good building blocks for next season.

24.04.08 Away to Highworth. Won 2-0

The boys got back to winning ways this evening with an excellent 2-0 away win at Highworth.

Nathan started his first game this season as captain and took the role in his stride and lead the team very well.

The team took on a different shape in the absence of Tom, Josh & Cookie so with only 11 fit players the team lined up with a few changes in position but the boys took to the task really well and in a very entertaining game in which both sides went out to play good football.

In the first half we managed to create a number of chances keeping the Highworth defence and keeper busy.

Half time instructions of ‘same again’ were took on board and Shaw kept probing creating a number of chances but midway through the half finally got the breakthrough with Michael being played in by first Alex and then Arnas for another 2 goals for him which closed out the game.

Due to the high level of the boys individual performance it was impossible to pick out anyoen for special mention so all the boys earned top marks for one of the best team perfrmances of the season, keep it up boys!

All credit to both teams for commiting themselves to a very good game and again well done to the boys for another improved and excellent performance.

20.04.08 Away to Ferndale. lost 4-1

Hard luck to all the boys involved in the 4-1 defeat by Ferndale.

Conceding two goals from corners in the first half and then another in the second wasn’t good and seemed to put the boys on the back foot for the whole match.

Special mentions however must go to Jack Richens, again, his game has improved fantastically well since he has claimed the right back position. A special mention must also go to Cookie for his late consolation goal.

12.04.08 Home to Wickham Wanderers. Lost 0-5

Hard luck to all those players who took part in the 0-5 loss to Wickham Wanderers. It was always going to be difficult with Michael, Brad and Chad all missing.

We didn’t make it any easier for ourselves when we allowed Wickham to go 4-0 up in a crazy first 15 minutes. Unfortunately the boys didn't manage to perform to the standards they’ve set themselves over the past few weeks.

Things improved slightly in the second half when we finally started to play the football we’ve become used to and restricted Wickham to a couple of chances and a single goal.

Despite this being “a bad day at the office” there were a couple of bright points. Peter made some good saves and kept the score down, Tom marshalled his defence in his ever improving style and Jack Richens played fantastically well breaking down attack after attack.

30.03.08 Home to Ferndale. 1-1 Draw

Well done to everyone involved in the 1-1 draw against Ferndale. Once again Simon & I think we played extremely well and with a little bit luck we could have won this one.

The whole team played exceptionally well but special mentions go to Chris who was playing at centre half, Tom for marshalling his defence, Nathan who was playing totally out of position in left midfield and up front and Michael who added another goal to his growing tally for the season

15.03.08 Home to Stratton juniors A. Lost 1-2

Hard luck to everyone involved in the 1-2 loss to Stratton Juniors A. Once again we played fantastic football and were just so unlucky not to come away with points. Both Simon & I thought we played Stratton off the park and even the Stratton Juniors Manager and Coach said we deserved the draw.

The whole team showed great commitment and fight for all of the match but special mentions go to Cookie who played through the pain barrier yet again and Michael who scored his 5th goal in his first four matches for the team.

09.03.08 Home to Coleshill. Won 6-2

Sunday’s 6-2 win over Coleshill was a very important result with both Highworth C and Stratton Youth losing. We certainly built on Saturday’s effort and it was another good team performance.

Special mentions must go to Jack who had his second very good game in a row, Nath for coming off his sick bed, Chad for getting a well deserved goal and Joel who ran himself into the ground and got 2 goals. The other goals came from Micheal (2) and Chris

08.03.08 Away to Wroughton. Lost 4-0

Hard luck to everyone involved in the 4-0 loss to Wroughton. Both Simon & I thought we played fantastically well in the first half and were really unlucky to concede a very dubious goal.

The second half started well but after they scored their second goal on the break we were left with little choice other than to “chase the game”. This obviously left gaps at the back but I think every one agrees that the 4-0 score line was not a true reflection of the game.

Special mentions go to Jack Richens, Ben who was playing out of position as left back, Chris who dropped backing into central defence and Chad whose speed and tenacity always causes the opposition trouble.

24.02.08 Away to Stratton Juniors B. Lost 3-2

Unfortunately not a good result. We were out muscled and sometimes out played by a physical Stratton Juniors B side. There were few positives from the match but it was good to see Michael Norcliffe put two goals away on his debut.

23.02.08 Home to South Cerney. Won 5-1

Well done to everyone involved in Saturday’s 5-1 win over South Cerney. At times we played some great football and could have had a few more goals especially with Arnas hitting the post with his penalty, Joel hitting the bar and Chad being denied a definite penalty.

Special mentions must go to all of the back four again, especially Nath for his great goal, Alex for his hat trick and Chad for all of his running up front

10.02.08 Away to Stratton Youth. Won 0-2

Well done to everyone involved in the 2-0 win over Stratton Youth, it may not have been too pretty but it was a good 3 points against a difficult team. Things weren’t helped by both Jack and Ben being off sick but it was good to see Chad back.

Special mentions must go to Pete for another clean sheet, all of the back four and Brad for a cracking first goal and his first goal of the season.

With Lydiard pulling out of the league the gap between ourselves and the teams above us has closed slightly, if we continue to progress and play as we have over the last few weeks there is every chance for us to climb the table.

03.02.08 Home to Wotton Bassett. Lost 1-2

Well done to everyone involved in the unfortunate 1-2 defeat against Wotton Bassett. If it hadn’t been for a very strange refereeing decision I really think we could have won the game.

This was our best performance to date and every single player played a fantastic part in this game. However special mentions must go to Pete for an outstanding performance in goal, JP for a terrific goal line clearance and Nath & Tom for being exceptionally disciplined in defence.

27.01.08 Away League match against Pewsham. Won 1-5

Well done to everyone involved in the 5-1 win against Pewsham our strong defensive performance in the first half set us up for an attacking second half and 5 goals in 30 minutes can’t be too bad.

Special mentions go to Chris and Arnas for getting 2 goals each, Josh for getting one and Tom and Nath who both led the defence well and regularly turned defence into an attack.

06.01.08 Away League match against South Cerney. Won 4-0

Well done to everyone involved in the 4-0 victory against South Cerney. Considering that was our first match in over 5 weeks Simon & I felt everyone played really well, especially in the first half where our passing and commitment were superb.

Special mentions to Pete for keeping another clean sheet, Al for playing through his illness and Chris who had a great game dropping into centre midfield

25.11.07 Home league match against Highworth C. Lost 0-3

Hard luck to all the boys involved in the 0-3 loss to Highworth C. whilst it was a good battling performance our passing game never really got going and we weren’t able to maintain the high standards we’ve set ourselves in recent weeks.

Special mentions go to Pete for some fantastic saves, Tom for his role in defence and to Chris who worked his socks off, alone, up front.

18.11.07 Home league match against Stratton Jnrs B. Won 10-0

After a very dodgy first 20 minutes, the boys started to play as a team and got their passing game going. Arnas scored with a great free kick and Shaw ended the first half 3-0 up.

The second half saw the boys turn on the style and rattle 7 more goals past the Stratton Keeper.

Special mentions for Pete keeping his 2nd clean sheet of the season and Tom, Joel & Chad who got 2 goals each and could have had hat tricks

Shaw goals from Arnas, Nath, Chris, Josh,Tom, Joel and Chad

11.11.07 Cup Match away to Wootton Bassett. Lost 0-4
A disappointing score line but a very encouraging team performance. Special mentions to Ben for his continuing improvement in defence and to the hard work of Alex & Brad in midfield

04.11.07 League Match home to Cricklade Youth. Won 6-1
Shaw goals from Chris(2), Cookie, Alex, Arnas and Nathan. Special mentions to our two new players Chad and Joel who both played really well on their debuts

28.10.07 League match away against Colshill draw 0-0
Special mentions must go to Tom who controlled the back four and led by example for the whole match and to Peter who kept his first clean sheet of the season.

14.10.07 Cup Match home to South Cerney. Won 4-1.
A brilliant team performance from all of the boys saw the team move into the 2nd round of the league cup. Shaw goals from Chris Siddle (2), Mike Cook and Josh Meredith

07.10.07 League Match away to Wickham Wanderers. Lost 4-2.
A fighting performance by the boys with special thanks to Nathan Crittle & Mike Cook for stepping in as deputy goal keepers. Shaw goals from Mike Cook & Chris Siddle, Man of the Match Jack Richens

30.09.07 League Match Home to Pewsham Youth. Lost 2-3.
Shaw goals from Alex Baker & Chris Siddle

16.09.07 League Match. Home to Stratton Youth. Won 3-2.
Shaw goals from Nathan Crittle, Tom Waddicor & Mike Cook

09.09.07 League Match. Away to Wootton Bassett. Lost 10-1

A disapointing start to the season saw the boys go down 10-1 to Bassett. An early injury to Chris Siddle didn't help matters but at least the boys battled to the end. Shaw goal from Nathan Crittle
